Elijah Secord, son of William and Ruth (Hunt) Secord
I have a copy of a transcription of William's will. It lists his daughters all by name, and his son William who predeceased him. The will mentions four other sons, still living, but only names one of them, James, as executor. The other three are commonly agreed to be Gilead, Elijah, and Carmel. I have not yet seen proof of this but I am comfortable that it is correct as it appears that a listing of the children of the other Secord family in the area, Elias and Abigail (Babcock) Secord, has survived and been passed down. This gives their children by name with date of birth, and it does not include Gilead, Elijah, or Carmel. These three also seem to be connected to Kings County, where William lived, and not Queens County, where Elias lived.
Elijah is said to have married Abigail Guiou, but I haven't seen anything to back this up. I have not been able to find cemetery records for them. However, they appear in the 1851 census for Greenwich Parish, Kings County, New Brunswick. Elijah was listed as age 61, and his wife Abigail was 43. Their children were Rachel, 12; Isaac, 10; Neheamiah, 8; Ambrose, 6; Frances, 5; and Elizabeth, 2. All were born in New Brunswick.
The Vital Statistics from New Brunswick Newspaper series at http://archives.gnb.ca/APPS/NewspaperVitalStats/?culture=en-CA contains an announcement of Elijah's death:
Date: June 21 1856
County: Saint John
Place: Saint John
Newspaper: New Brunswick Courier
d. Sussex Vale (Kings Co.) 6th inst., Elijah SECORD, age 66.
A date of death of June 6, 1856 combined with his age of 66 suggests a year of birth about 1790. This fits well with his age, 61, in the 1851 census.
