On the 12th of August, 1784, the town plot of St. Andrews was granted to ‘William Gammon and 429 others.’ The full list of grantees is as follows:-

The town was laid out in three divisions, called
Bulkley’s, Parr’s and Morris’s. The streets
were made broad and regular, and much of the beauty of the shire
town to-day is due to one of the provisions of the location
tickets-that the grantee should build a house upon his lot six
feet from the street line.
