On the 12th of August, 1784, the town plot of St. Andrews was granted to ‘William Gammon and 429 others.’  The full list of grantees is as follows:-

To several of the above grantees, who seem to have been persons of especial prominence or influence, more than one town lot was granted.  They were George Dawson, John Dixon, David Fogo, John Hall, John Hervey, Nehemiah Marks, Donald McClean, Maurice Salt and Thomas Tompkins.

The town was laid out in three divisions, called Bulkley’s, Parr’s and Morris’s.  The streets were made broad and regular, and much of the beauty of the shire town to-day is due to one of the provisions of the location tickets-that the grantee should build a house upon his lot six feet from the street line.
